The other day over dinner I said On my way out tonight Im going to go to Kmart and buy myself a clock radio so I can get organised and get myself up in the mornings again. All three kids chimed in with I want a clock in MY room! I need an alarm clock TOO! and theyre right, they do need clocks in their rooms they can see in the dark, so I went to Kmart on my way out and bought three, for $15 each. Basic function, nice and simple. Easy! That was Wednesday. I plugged them in on Friday. Friday night I got up at midnight to stop the one in the boys room from buzzing. Saturday morning I got up at 5am to stop mine from buzzing. Saturday lunchtime I carefully reset both clocks to ensure that they were set to radio, that the radio was tuned in, and that they wouldnt go off until Monday morning when Id set the alarms again. Got up at 5am to turn off my radio. Got up at 7.30 to stop the one in the boys room from buzzing. Also got up somewhere around 3am to turn off the stupid clangy alarm clock in the boys room that someone had been playing with and inadvertently set. AND, not only this, I was called away from my favourite spot on the couch last night to answer my 5yo who was calling out in distress MUMMY! Whats 83 plus 7? Ummm...7:38. I have decided that we do not need clocks after all. This afternoon I think Ill go to Kmart and take them back for a refund. Then Ill go and spend my $45 on one decent clock radio, for me, that works. And some ear plugs.
