The other day we purchased a Green cheek conure that had been hand - TopicsExpress

The other day we purchased a Green cheek conure that had been hand raised but for whatever reason the owners had not kept up handling him and left him is quite a small cage for some time. He had few toys, the wrong seed and bashed his beak and head repeatedly on the bars of the cage and sharpened his beak for minutes at a time on the perch. This is not quaint habits but a sigh of impending madness from boredom. He is now sitting on top of his cage looking much happier with life, thank heavens he is not to late to rehab. We will get a sensible loving owner for him and his life will change from frustration to happiness. I have seen birds feather pluck, self mutilate, and repeatedly throw themselves on the floor of a cage just to fill in the day. Please ask about suitable toys, means of stimulation, perches, food and very important the right size space for your bird. Dont just get a bird and cage on the cheap, wait till you can do it properly and make your bird a happy camper with a long happy life. Cages here are not expensive starting at $45.95 for a large budgie cage. Tall cages are pointless, your bird is not a helicopter, he needs length not height. Would you like to live in the toilet all your life? No! Then why should your bird have to live in a tiny room it is a living, loving, feeling, hurting little person with feathers.
