The past few months have been nothing short of amazing. I had a a small bump in the road (I had a bout of Graft Versus Host Disease) a few weeks after I came home from the hospital, but things have been going really great since we got that under control. As of yesterday, my blood counts are all coming up nicely. My white cell count is in the normal range, but my platelets and red cells still have a bit to go. My last chimerism test (this test shows what percentage of cells belong to the donor) showed that 100% of granulocytes, 90% of leukocytes, and 20% of T-cells belong to her. At some point all of my blood cells will have her DNA, so I will have two types of DNA. She will literally be part of me forever, which is kind of mind-blowing. Now that Im past Day 100, some of my food restrictions have been lifted. The first takeout I wanted and had were a pint of chicken from The Red Barn, a Whoop-de-Doo from Wicked Whoopies, and a cannoli from Mikes Pastry in Boston. They were all soooooo good! I also was able to attend every one of Andrews football games. I had so much fun and it was so great to be able to spend time with friends in the stands. I was able to go because I can do outdoor activities. This winter is going to be a bit of a challenge for me. I still have restrictions regarding contact with people and going to public places. The isolation is sometimes a bit challenging. I am, however, trying to find outside events to go to so I dont go crazy. My hair is also finally starting to grow back. Im super-excited about that. Its awful cold being bald in the winter. My family and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We were able to get all three kids together at the same time, which was nothing short of a miracle! We are all so thankful for everything that has happened over the past year. My dad survived lung cancer and is still cancer-free, and I am alive and well. We have been blessed beyond measure by God, my donor, my doctors, our family, our friends, our church, our coworkers, and our community. Words cannot express how thankful we are for everyones kindness, love, compassion, and generosity. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being a part of my life. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
