The pathetic tale is that of Nandakishore- Jayanthi couple. Despite poverty, the couple were leading a happy and contented life with their two sons. However one fateful day Nandakishore lost his left thumb which was caught in a machine at the Kadalakere plastic factory at Ontikatte where he was working. The sufferings of the family commenced from this day. Though Nandakishore returned to work after his treatment, life was not the same. Within four months, he began to suffer from severe stomach pain. After treatment at Yenepoya and Fr Muller Hospitals, doctors confirmed he had intestinal cancer. The family somehow arranged for funds and got Nandakishore treated by spending over Rs 5 lakhs. When things were about to settle down, he was diagnosed with brain cancer and the family was at complete loss. Nandakishore’s wife Jayanthi who used to roll beedies to eke out a oiling, now finds it difficult to even do that work as most of her time is spent in taking care of her husband. The difficulties of the family have also come in the way of the education of their children Kishan who studies in seventh standard and Durga Prasad who is in second standard. The family is now hoping kind hearted people would come to its aid.
