The people of Berea listened eagerly to Pauls message. They - TopicsExpress

The people of Berea listened eagerly to Pauls message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women & men. Acts 17:10-12. So many churches have the convenience of having scriptures displayed on large screens, excusing one from bringing their Bible to church. So not only is your Bible collecting dust from lack of use at home, its collecting even more from a lack of use at church. I find that both sad & alarming, which I believe has contributed greatly to a lack of spiritual growth in a majority of believers. We assume that if the preacher says it, or the screen displays it, it must be truth. And in many churches it is, but nothing can or should ever replace your personal search of scriptures. Even if you went to church everyday, twice a day, there is no way a teacher or preacher can ever cover the abundance of the Scriptures. Gods Word is alive; its not just history or an archaic document put together by man. It is the living, breathing Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit: All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17)...God used man to collect the documents & put them together for the common man to have access (the only good thing abt King James). Before that, the only ones with access to the Word was leaders & the wealthy. God used man, as He always has, to carry out a greater purpose in reaching more people with Scripture. Working in ministry, I have heard over & over how man wrote the Bible, how the Bible doesnt mention certain behaviors, how it means this not that, how it is fallible & contradictory, etc. But I also find that most who argue & debate the Word are the ones who have searched Google more than the scriptures. One thing I know - God can speak for Himself. If you want to take Him at His word, then take it to His Word. Search the scriptures; read scriptures in context; read it to learn Gods character. Dont allow a person, position or not, feed you when you can feed yourself. I would hate to know that Ive placed my eternity in the hands of human interpretation & not Gods. Read the Book; find a version/translation that you can understand. One isnt more inspired by God than another. If you cant understand the language, then you wont read it. Dont excuse a lack of reading on a lack of understanding. Ask God to open up your understanding & teach you.
