The people of bidiah are very dangerous because they undermine the religion and wage war against the sunnah of the Prophet, sollaLohu alaihi wasallam. Abu Qilaabah Abdullaah Ibn Zayd lbn ‘Umar said: Do not sit with the people of evil desires, as I do not feel safe from them plunging you in their misguidance and confusing you about some of what you already know Therefore, the scholars of sunnah have the right to correct the misconceptions of the innovators in line with the principles of Islamic law. In fact, in some circumstances, mentioning the names of innovators or the kuffaar who stand by their errors after they had been corrected is not a crime. If mentioning their names would assist the Muslim ummah in identifying them and run away from their fitnah, there is no problem in doing so. But if mentioning their names is not necessary, it is better for one not to mention names not to fall into gheebah (slandering). What the shariah really condemns is mentioning peoples names by way of mockery or to purposely insult their personalities maliciously. This is one of the areas I think Ustaz Muhammad Ali Jabata needs to really work on. On the authority of Aaishah, rodhiyaLohu anha : Hind, the wife of Abu Sufyan, said to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace); Abu Sufyan is a miserly man, and he is not giving me what would suffice me and my child, unless I take from him without his knowing. He said, Take what suffices you and your child according to common usage. [Bukhari, Muslim] It is good to always try to cover the vices of our fellow brother or sister in the deen because we are not perfect too, except if refusal to expose him or her would cause more fitnah to the Muslim community. The reason for this is that the interest of the public supercedes personal or private individual interest. But it is more precautionary to avoid mentioning of names. For example; instead of mentioning name, one may ask What is the verdict regarding a person who has done such and such? It is not a virtue in the manhaj of the salafs for a scholar to stand alone and think he knows everything and no one can correct his mistakes. A scholar should be able to consult other learned scholars on matters of the deen and find a common ground. Even the Messenger of Allah, sollaLohu alaihi wasallam did consult his sohaabah, rodhiyaLohu anhum and even work with their pieces of advise.
