The phone calls are steady, the requests are many. The Duck of Justice is all about getting his face on the page with important movers and shakers. This one is by far one of my favorite. Lucas Richman has been the Music Director for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra since 2003 and as Music Director and Conductor for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra since 2010. If I went over his CV on this page, I would misplace, misspell and make many mistakes. It is impressive, even to a huge April Wine fan. If you are a follower of the symphony, you already know it. The short version of this story is that Marianne (Last name unknown... not really, she is shy) of the District Attorneys Office advised me that as a Friend of the Bangor Symphony, she heard that Mr. Richman was a fan of the Duck of Justice and wanted to come by and get a photo with the duck. She said he wanted to bring his GRAMMY. Being all about family, I said, sure. His grandmother didnt show but he brought his GRAMMY AWARD. First time for everything. He also brought Brian Hinrichs of the Symphony. Nice guy and someone had to carry the cookies. I used our new officer interview form to get the scoop from Richman who is moving with his family to Bangor. He loves it here. So do we! TC: If I gave you 100 bucks, what would you do with it? LR: Place it into a fund that would grow and ultimately produce programs to give back to the community. TC: If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be? LR: Move to Bangor sooner. TC: One piece of advice to someone who asked? LR: Be sincere, be honest and be good. TC: What is one thing you would try if you knew you could not fail? LR: Space travel TC: Where did you grow up? LR: L.A. TC: Can you play Chopsticks? LR: Anyone can play Chopsticks. TC: What is the most difficult way to play it? LR: It is very simple and I am known to play it at the drop of a hat TC: Tell me the most difficult way to play it LR: E Flat Minor, but again TC, it is still easy. TC: Can you do it in E Flat Minor? LR: Well, of course. TC: I am impressed. Can I touch the GRAMMY AWARD? LR: No, you cannot. TC: Thank you. TC: Favorite bands or artists? LR: Queen, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I also love Koan Sound...great stuff. TC: If you were on an island and could have only three things, what would those things be? LR: Filtered water, endless supply of healthful foods and a portal to the greatest libraries in the world. TC: I would have taken a 7-11 and a collection of eight tracks. You are pretty high end. TC: Why did you want to become a conductor? LR: I like to be in the position of bringing people together for the experience of music making. In my capacity of my role as a leader, I am able to guide both musicians and audiences through great moments of musical achievement. TC: Wow. Here I was excited to share with you my favorite conductor was Bugs Bunny as Leopold. LR: He was good, very good. TC: I know, right? Needless to say, Lucas Richman is a great guy and we are lucky to have him. The Bangor Symphony Orchestra will be next playing on November 23rd 2014 at the Collins Center for the Arts. Grab some tickets, this guy is good. Thanks for coming by Maestro! The men and women of the Bangor Police Department will be here!
