The political leaders in Scotland have set March 24, 2016 as their Independnce Day should a referundum in 2014 calling for Scotland to break away from the Union becomes successful. Scotish leaders say if their country becomes independence they will not allow the Faslane Nuclear Base which also houses the Trident nuclear submarine fleet to be stationed on their territory meaning London will be forced to remove them at an estimated cost of £10 billion...Many political and strategic thinkers are analysing the ramifications of Scotland leaving the Union. For example if Scotland leaves will Wales and North Ireland also go their separate ways, leaving England to stand alone? Will a shrinking United Kingdom without Scotland able to maintain its economic, diplomatic, political and military influence in the world? Will a shrinking UK lose its status as a permanent UN Security Council member? Will the UK be able to control or influence policy issues within the European Union and NATO? How will a UK without Scotland affect relationship with the rest of the developing world including Ghana? If Scotland leaves the Union peacefully, will it help other federal countries like Nigeria struggling to remian united?
