The political situation in Ukraine continues to make news as the Ukrainian government responds to a rebellion in several eastern provinces. In the face of this conflict, as well as the economic disruptions it brings, the Ukrainian Lutheran Church (ULC) continues to serve people with the gospel and to demonstrate Christian love and concern. Our sister church body is continuing to struggle in the face of financial difficulties. But in spite of that, congregations of the ULC are helping to care for a number of refugees displaced by the conflict. Worship services continue, Gods Word is taught and proclaimed, and the members of the ULC remain faithful. Even more encouraging is the fact that the ULC continues to work toward becoming fully independent and self-sustaining. Rev. Vyacheslav Horpynchuk, the bishop (president) of the ULC, reported recently that a vacation Bible school (VBS) was held at St. John Lutheran Church in Ivanivka. More than 25 children attended to study Luthers Small Catechism as well as participate in music and athletic activities. This is the first time that a congregation of the ULC conducted a VBS with no teachers or planning assistance from WELS or the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Please continue to keep the Ukrainian Lutheran Church in your prayers. For more information about the ULC, check out the WELS Missions blog and wels.net. Serving in Christ, President Mark Schroeder
