The population of Nigeria is large, young and fast rising. Our - TopicsExpress

The population of Nigeria is large, young and fast rising. Our infrastructure is growing at snail pace while we spend most of our money paying politicians and civil servants. Our army of young people dont have jobs and no hope of one in the near future. Its a clear setting for a big socio-political explosion that could make Boko Haram a childs play. Infrastructure drives economic growth. We need electricity and efficient transportation to encourage production and employment. No matter the number of roads you build, there are more vehicles coming in to fill them up. Just look at the number of vehicles entering our ports daily. Shouldn’t we by now pay a lot more attention to other means of transportation, especially trains and ferries in places like Lagos? On the Apapa road congestion, we havent seen anything yet as more and more goods and petroleum products would need to be moved through that axis daily into the foreseeable future. Only in Nigeria do we not think ahead of this sort of exigency. We need trains to move goods out of Apapa ports, not trucks! These things/projects are not easy but we just need to conceive and execute them even if we have to borrow! There is no short cut. If you have any alternative ideas, it would be nice to hear them here. Thanks.
