The post about the stray dog found on Route 202 has gotten completely out of hand. This info was posted to help whoever owns the dog find it even though we lacked cooperation from the finder. Our mission as stated on this page is" to reunite stray pets with their owners, and if not possible then to find them perfect forever homes. We also inform our community about the responsibilities necessary to be a good pet owner and enforce all town and state laws pertaining to animal welfare." That is what we did with the post of the found dog. We made residents aware that there was a found dog, we made them aware that it is a violation of Mass General Laws for failure to turn over a found dog to Animal Control. WE DID NOT SAY that we were going to pursue charges. There are numerous reasons why a found dog should be turned over. We share info of lost and found dogs from the surrounding areas in the hopes of having them reunited. We also share news pertaining to animal welfare and feel good animal related posts. If you do not like what we do you do not have to visit or like our page. If you have an issue with something feel free to contact us via private message or over the phone. If you do not feel that you have received satisfaction please feel free to contact Chief Fox of the Belchertown Police Department as we are part of that department. We will not put up with people slamming others on this page or slamming our department. As one poster put it, do it on your own page. We are not dog catchers we are trained Animal Control Officers and we take our jobs very seriously and do everything in our power to protect the animals and citizens of this town.
