The poster designer Wo Wang always have a very special sense of humour. A few years ago when the national security stopped screening in the festival venues, the festival continued screen films from various artist studio. (The festival is held in Song Zhuang, an artist village with 8000 artists living there. ) Learning that, in 2012 the local government just black out the electricity in some area of the village during the screening time of the festival. I remember the festival director jokingly said he will get a power generator so that screenings can go on. The Chinese independent filmmakers is so strong in spirit, they can just cope with anything. Now the authority just use violence. We dont need to ask why the Chinese government trying to stop the independent filmmakers, but we should ask why all these filmmakers are still making films independently. Stop seeing China as this giant country with absolute power, but look at all these single people living in that country, trying to change things. Maybe it is about time we show all these Chinese Independent Films in Malaysia. We have a lot to learn from them.
