The posts have been done and now I guess it is time to render my opinion on the ending of last nights game. I have een 4 replays of th play and I think it has to be broken down before the opinion can be made. First Pedroia made a hell of a play to get the ground ball. Molina was out at home. The mistake was made by Saltilamaccia by throwing to third base. Now comes the part I have been thinking about, after the ball went over the 3rd basemans head it was retrieved by the Sox left fielder who by the way came out of nowhere to make a great throw to home. If the rule book is read correctly and after talking to 2 umpires I know as well as the opinons of some of the baseball analysists I believe thr right call was made. When a play like this evoles emotions do come into play. Nowhere does the word intent enter into the obstruction of a base runner. The runner has a right to a clear path to the next base and that path was impeded by Middlebrooks. If you watch the play the umpire never takes his eyes off of the ply and he immediately calls obstruction. I just saw on ESPN where Farrel even acknowledges that the correct call was made. Now do I feel sorry about this Yes I wish the game had never ended like that and it was a clean wiin for one team or the other. My questions is this to the fans, if that had been another team at 3rd and it was the Red Sox runner what would you say then if the Sox won a game that way? That is my opinion although I will probably be crucified or it. Thepart I dont like is that a game had to end like this it takes away from everything good that has been happening and as for instant replay I dont know if that would have over turned it one way or the other. I have also talked to some Red Sox fans and they have even agreed with the call. When something lke this you cannot base your opinion on emotion. The rule book states hat it is and no mattr how vauge it may or may not be the rules are the rules.
