The preliminary rounds on the second day of the Sambo tournament - TopicsExpress

The preliminary rounds on the second day of the Sambo tournament have taken place in the Arena sports complex in St Petersburg. The finalists are now preparing for the evening competitions, which begin at 18:00 local time, and the spectators are getting ready for some impressive wrestling. In this article we tell you who will be facing whom in the finals and third-place playoffs. 74 kg Russia’s Ali Kurzhev and Ukraine’s Dmitry Babichuk are through to the final in this weight. Moreover, the future finalist from Russia was seconded by his brother – the twice world champion who also came first at the Universiade, Uali Kurzhev. An interesting detail is that Uali wrestled against Dmitry Babichuk and won, at the Aslambek Aslakhanov prize tournament in 2010. Now it’s his brother’s turn to face this Ukrainian wrestler. European champion Dmitry Babichuk got through his preliminary matches brilliantly and, most importantly, quickly. The last two took him only 41 seconds in all, with two painful leg locks – and today he is among the leaders in the “fastest fight” category. Bronze will be contested by Dwayne Hinds from Trinidad and Tobago, who made his mark with a painful arm lock against Italy’s Messandra, and Georgia’s Kakha Mamulashvili, who impressed with some grand-amplitude hip-rolls. The next to take the floor at the Arena sports hall in their quest for bronze will be France’s Jean-Louis Reina and Argentina’s Alejandro Clara. Thus two representatives of the Pan-American continent will be taking part in the fight for medals in this weight.
