The problem is is that we often expect performance from others - TopicsExpress

The problem is is that we often expect performance from others when there is no identity. And when we judge them based on their performance, we reinforce the lack of identity they have and feed into the cycle of worthlessness they feel. People are not motivated by condemnation, theyre motivated by grace, which is undeserved favor. Every person who has accepted Jesus as their Savior is the recipient of undeserved favor and our primary responsibility, the way we love people into the kingdom, is by pouring out grace into people who dont deserve it and who could never earn it from us. That, in fact, is the process of giving away that which weve received, that is what brings transformation. Until a persons identity is restored, they are performing out of the hopes of receiving love and acceptance instead of performing out of the place of a much loved son or daughter of God. And if you are holding other people to a standard of behavior and performance, then you are probably holding yourself to that as well, which indicates you also are working for Gods favor when in fact it is unearnable. God is no respecter of persons. He is love, so who he is - which is eternal love and acceptance - is always on toward every person, always near, always available. But most never perceive it, miss it and spend their lives searching for it because those of us who are already receiving arent giving away.
