The problem with science in schools is that in the majority of settings, we arent taught to think like scientists. Were given facts we could have searched up online and generally just fed to beat the exam. There is little correlation between subjects and a lack of true understanding. Its the reason why I switched streams. I was looking for something else, something beyond that veil of facts. I was looking for analysis, for something new, for a way to be different. I did find that in humanities/commerce, well, up until Keynesian and monetarist theories in economics but thats another story. Whats great though is that I gained a broader view, that of an unfinished story. Whats even better is that for once I truly understood the role of science. Its the expansion in the frontiers of knowledge and human output, hence its true meaning in Latin: Knowledge. It exists in every field of study and doesnt belong only to engineers and doctors. It belongs to anyone who dares to question, explore the unknown and introduce the new. School should be equipping us with tools and putting telescopes to our eyes, not feeding us with maps in dark cabins! We need a culture of targeting the unknown and the collaboration of fields. It will fuel the fires of enterprise and cooperation. “The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum....” -Noam Chomsky
