The proposed lab gas scrubber can be used for CO2, H2S and NH3. For CO2 and H2S an NaOH solution can be used as scrubber liquor. The scrubber chemisorption reactions are: CO2 + 2 NaOH à Na2CO3 + H2O (pH > 8.) (and Na2CO3 +CO2 + H2O à 2 NaHCO3 (pH < 9) H2S + 2 NaOH àNa2S + 2 H2O (pH > 12) (and Na2S + H2S à 2 NaHS (pH < 12) For the caustic NH3, a sulphuric acid solution is used as the scrubber liquor. The scrubber reactions are: NH3 + H2O à NH4OH 2 NH4OH + H2SO4 à (NH4)2SO4 NOx consists mainly of a mixture NO2 and NO. NO2 is easily scrubbed. It is absorbed and reacted with water to HNO3 and HNO2 2 NO2 + H2O à HNO3 + HNO2 Further reactions are 2 HNO2 + O2 à 2 HNO3 3 HNO2 à HNO3 + 2 NO + H2O NO can not be absorbed in the scrubber and will pass untreated, unless oxidised to NO2. To guarantee a very fast oxidation reaction an oxidant such as NaOCl (sodium hypochlorite) can be added to the scrubber liquor. We have no method for the scrubbing of Siloxane compound.
