The proposer has made a compelling case, a massive opportunity, a chance of a lifetime. The status quo has laid back and desperately tried to pick holes in it using the tactic of inducing fear and anxiety in the people, attempting to involve big business, banks and the media in the process. Bring that to my door and they’ll be shown it. The lie that Scotland would be forced to leave the EU and then reapply for membership, that’s now been confirmed that through the process of “internal enlargement” Scotlands uninterrupted membership of the EU is guaranteed Of course there are some risks in independence, and even if they come to fruition, they’d be short-lived and we’d be in control of the outcome, I’m prepared to take that on for a better future. However, sticking with the status quo is even more risky as we have zero control of our future because we keep ourselves in the dependency of Westminster’s purse strings, a government we never elect and have very little Scottish interest, apart from interest in our resources of course. Put simply you can have uncertainty with power or uncertainty without power. I’m going for uncertainty with power all day long! Nobody can tell exactly what will happen after the vote as we haven’t invented the time machine yet, but as you’ve stated it’s about choosing who you think is most credible, I agree with you and I’d like to add “trust” into that equation. With the limited powers the Scottish Government currently has its introduced free tuition fees, free prescriptions, free bridge tolls to name only a few…. It’s put Scottish people at its heart…. All of that and more can be taken away at a stroke by Westminster knocking a few million off Scotland’s annual settlement. The Barnet formula is the current mechanism for calculating that settlement and crucially, it’s important to know it has no legal standing. The UK Treasury can change it at will…. I don’t want to be reliant on a hand-out from Westminster that’s not guaranteed. I know who I trust more, established on Scottish government past performance and the original subject of this post (the lie that additional powers would be promised)… and it’s not Project Fear. Again, put simply you can have uncertainty with power or uncertainty without power. I’m going for uncertainty with power all day long! Ending on a positive note what’s great about this campaign is engagement, Scottish politics will never be the same again. I look forward to a record turnout! That way we’ll get what the majority want. It’ll be back to work on Monday and I’ll work with the hand I’m dealt……signing off here
