The protests over the grand jury verdicts in Ferguson and Staten Island continued over the weekend, with protesters shutting down highways and bridges in major cities. That’s better than looting and burning, but it’s still not the smartest way to get the public on your side. As everyone from Chris Christie to “Saturday Night Live” could tell them, nothing makes people sympathetic to your argument like shutting down bridge traffic when they’re trying to get to work. In Milwaukee, protesters who blocked a freeway were arrested. They included two children, ages 6 and 10, who were turned over to child protective services. Again, if blocking traffic doesn’t get the public on your side, making your children stand in the middle of a freeway probably isn’t going to do it, either.
