The public is $$$-challenged: September 17, 2013 at 11:38 am (Quote) If only OMV is used, govt will have much less revenue (and they cannot control the revenue to boot), but a lot more scrutinity from the public when price fluctuates, and more political cost as a result as it becomes very apparent who is profiteering from the whole saga. For example: Honda Civic 1.6L OMV fluctuated between $15,000 and $22,000: Apply 100% Levy: Price fluctuate between $30,000 and $40,000 Apply 200% Levy: Price fluctuate between $45,000 and $66,000 Apply 300% Levy: Price fluctuate between $60,000 and $88,000 Apply 400% Levy: Price fluctuate betweem $75,000 and %110,000 The latest COE bidding price for 1.6L and above is $77,100. LTA effectively pocket 400% from the price of the OMV of the car alone! Volkswagen Beetle 1.2L fluctuated between $18,000 and $21,000: Apply 100% Levy: Price fluctuate between $36,000 and $42,000 Apply 200% Levy: Price fluctuate between $54,000 and $63,000 Apply 300% Levy: Price fluctuate between $72,000 and $84,000 Apply 400% Levy: Price fluctuate betweem $90,000 and %105,000 The latest COE bidding price for below 1.6L is $77,304. LTA effectively pocket >300% from the price of the OMV of the car alone! And yet, they can blame it on the market forces and that it is “beyond their control”. Lots of smart ass at LTA and lots of dumb ass living on the little red dot. LEEches typically love to use $$$-distraction argument tactics on a $$$-challenged public to relieve $$$ from them. Many can see the immediate logic given by LEEches (based on how they structure the justification), but many are unable to see the bigger picture: that whatever gets proposed, the taxpayers ALWAYS ends up paying higher than they did before. Check out other policy changes and see if it is true. You always end up paying more after a policy change. PS: My Town-Council bill is about to go up another 3% starting this month by YOU-KNOW-WHOs-TOWN-COUNCIL lah.
