The purpose of The Lords supper is To help us to remember The Lord - TopicsExpress

The purpose of The Lords supper is To help us to remember The Lord Jesus and keep Him close in mind. This isnt about Christianity but about Jesus, a relationship not a religion. Also to remember the cost that Christ paid for the freedom that He purchased at the great price of His death on the cross. The old covenant was about doing things to keep right with God, the new covenant is about the gift of Christ. Do this in remembrance of me,” Jesus instructed as He passed out the bread and the cup to His Disciples. From that point forward, whenever they partook of the bread and drank from the cup, they were to recall how His body was broken and how His blood was shed. It was not something to be simply remembered every so often. He wanted them to be reminded of His sacrifice every time they gathered together. The ultimate demonstration of love was to be seared in their memories, never to be forgotten. Whenever we eat this bread or drink this cup we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. The purpose of Christ’s death was to reconcile mankind to God. In order achieve that goal, He commanded His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. Countless people in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth had yet to hear of what Christ had done for them. Whenever the disciples gathered together, they were to be reminded anew so that they would be compelled to share the love of Christ and fulfill the Great Commission. Now here we are in 2013, thousands of years removed from the death and resurrection of Jesus. The bread and the cup still stand as symbolic reminders of His broken body and His shed blood. Communion is a holy act because the taking in of Jesus never loses its power for us and how it can heal. When we take in Jesus through communion we are outwardly recognizing how Jesus body was broken so that we can be made whole. By His stripes we are healed. It is our duty to remember this each time we partake and to use communion in our time of needed healing. What does the love of Christ compel us to do today? Are the choices that we make defined by Christ’s sacrifice? When we participate in Lord’s Supper, may we be reminded afresh of His love so that we proclaim it until His return.(1Corinthians11:26)
