The purpose of our small-scale , non- commercialized basic yoga - TopicsExpress

The purpose of our small-scale , non- commercialized basic yoga training and practice program is to spread mindfulness practices used in healthcare settings, with moderate goals. Hatha yoga ( regardless of styles ) has different components , among our interest in healthcare settings which include the following 3 components : ( 1.) Basic asana (posture) practice for moderate strength training, low-intensity aerobics through vinyasas ( ex. Series A and B of surya namaskar as examples), and flexibility training, as well as stress release (cooling down, restorative routines ). For this part too , I enjoin participants to cross train in other modalities -- brisk walk, run, swim , row, lift weights-- outside class. I purposely avoid postures which have the potential to cause injury to the spine among others if mistakes occur ( documented in clinical literature). (2.) Pranayama - controlled breathing exercises which include conscious slowing of breathing within comfortable levels , in stillness as well as during our vinyasas ( documented benefits for stress reduction to induce the relaxation response ). ( 3. ) Meditation --- clinically tested , focused awareness training on our inner and outer experiences through mindfulness meditation is the choice for the program , to develop nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment , creating space between our hurried thoughts to internally slow us down whenever necessary to reduce unnecessary anxieties about the present and future , and help us make better judgments when decisions have to be made. Clinically documented, when practiced with regularity , there are many benefits to develop psychological resilience , improving immunological parameters and lowering cardiovascular risks, another tool which may be helpful in our daily life.
