The question about "Public Good" and how it is used to con us. In the beginning our smart lawyers invented "autonomous agencies" those agencies whose names end with "Commission" or "Authority" These are agencies that enjoy autonomy which have little oversight from the mayors of cities or governors of the States. We can sometimes refer to them as "the invisible government" They were created to fix inefficiencies that had plagued local governments that did not have the expertise or manpower to get things done. The public was told they are only temporary and when the project is done they will be "sunset" normally in 40 years. This usually never happens because the smart lawyers who drafted these charters made sure that there will be clauses that will keep such agencies alive even after their charter expires. The next generation will never even have a clue what happened. One of which is if they are in a deficit they keep chuggin along. Simple, just keep spending more and you will always be in the red. Another strategy is to amend this clause quietly when nobody paid any notice and so it stays alive and the jobs of well connected beneficiaries continues. Gov. Christi did a good job at much risk to his political future when he busted the PVSC. He could have been in deep trouble if he did not uncover wrong doing which, fortunately he did. Now politicians are now using an alternative method to do just that and its called "privatization" . Prisons have been privatized. Even the parking meters in Chicago has been privatized. Very soon all our highways, bridges, airports and even our standing armies or local police force will be privatized. Welcome to the "New American Century".
