The real problem with the Bui Dam, as IMANI warned the Energy Ministry, is not the natural water level but its sheer *combined operational and capital cost profile*, which as a hydro source of power, with fluctuating output, risks it becoming a problem-project rather than a major solution to our energy challenges. That dam is expensive to run effectively, and either government jacks up its KWhr/$ purchase rate or the dam will start being uneconomical to operate. IMANI has also warned about the volume of gas that will be supplied to the Atuabo plant and advised that its modular units should have been designed with such lower volume in mind. As currently designed, that is also another major financial headache waiting to bloom. Mark our words.
