The really sad thing about the climate debate with the Next Gen - TopicsExpress

The really sad thing about the climate debate with the Next Gen Science Standards is that this discussion about a very narrow area of science overshadows a much more serious and fundamental problem: Next Gen Science essentially omits all high school chemistry and physics topics. This omission creates a serious problem for students who get interested in science. Students might really want to go on to a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM). However, without any standards, their high school might not offer a quality set of courses needed to actually do that. In fact, high schools might not even offer such upper level high school science courses at all. Shortly after Kentucky’s governor announced he would force implementation of Next Gen Science in his state, a student reported that his high school was dropping physics. That’s no way to boost science! It’s hard to understand how students could ever make real contributions regarding the climate issue if they never learn the basic science necessary to truly understand the issues. One wonders if a lack of real understanding of chemistry and physics is actually a goal for some of those who aggressively push climate while apparently ignoring the omission of key subject matter needed to fully understand the issue. Are such people pushing solid science, or just a narrowly focused agenda? (Second Post Attempt)
