The reason we have Celebrate Recovery even on holidays is because sometimes the days that are the greatest to many can be the hardest days for others. Its ok to have a hard time with holidays, but we must not use that as excuse to give up healthy habits or turn to destructive habits. We must seek out healthy solutions to our unhappiness. The blahs come to us all, but if they linger or repeat each year, they may just be the clue that we need to get us started toward a path to recovery. Its not the holidays that cause the unhappiness. It is more likely painful memories of past relationships, loneliness, stress caused by need to control or perform, worry about others approval or regret of past mistakes. This can become a heavy weight each year if we do not eventually learn to let go. If the blahs tend to come with Thanksgiving and stay until New Years or the name Scrooge, Grinch or Charlie Brown can be put on your stocking, maybe its time to start a new holiday trend? Maybe its time to break the old cycle if isolation, criticism and misery and start to truly embrace the healing found in Christ. Tonight, like every Friday night, the doors to Celebrate Recovery will be open. Bring your Scrooge, your Grinch and your Charlie Brown; your ghosts, your grouch and your Good Griefs because they will be loved and accepted too. Come as you are, and let God make your blue Christmas a true Christmas.
