The reburial of former Inspector General of Police Wilson Erinayo Oryema, is slated for September 18, at his ancestral home in Tangi village, Purongo Sub-county in Nwoya District. Mr Oryema was appointed the first African IGP on April 17, 1964 by then premier Apollo Milton Obote. President Museveni is expected to attend the State reburial. Mr Oryema was killed by Idi Amin government operatives on February 1977, together with Archbishop Janan Luwum and Defense minister Oboth Ofumbi, after being arrested for allegedly planning a coup. However, at the time of his burial, the deceased was not accorded a State burial due to insecurity. Speaking to journalists in Gulu Town, Aswa Regional Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, revealed that the remains of Oryema will be exhumed on September 15.
