The recent PHP discussions about the PHRA leave me a little - TopicsExpress

The recent PHP discussions about the PHRA leave me a little bewildered. Consider that there has been little or no discussion here about the record tax and spend increase contained in the 2014 budget. Ditto for the totally secret process to set council’s salaries for next year. No discussion of who kept their 2010 election promises. The list goes on. What we have seen is outrage over a questionnaire that had positive feedback from the majority of candidates and those who actually took the time to read them (they are the most popular downloads from the PHRA website). The PHRA hosted two well attended all-candidates evenings with a total attendance of over 800. The feedback from participants and attendees was overwhelmingly positive (though the sound system in the auditorium seems to be inadequate for those in the bleachers). Our website has had thousands of hits in the past month. We have helped to focus the election on issues and policy rather than just personality. We have helped to have a more informed electorate. We have provided a way for the non-incumbents to be heard. You can check our website for all of the 2010 election material and the 2014 voting record of council. All with volunteers spending hundreds of hours of their own time. Quite frankly it seems at times if Port Hope were the Titanic then Port Hope Politics would be focused on a diatribe about the colour of the wallpaper.
