The recent response for Against All Odds is noteworthy, here is another story by Tash Weeks I think my little Trojan deserves some recognition! She is a pocket sized 13.2 who tries her heart out for me... Even when I get it wrong! This is Dallas, when she was rescued by HorseWorld in Bristol. Emaciated, muddy and sad. Horseworld took her in, built her confidence, weight and made her happy again! They backed her as a 4 year old, and was put up for re-homing. Nobody called for months, until my mum did! It was a complete surprise, I wasnt expecting to go and see a horse but when I saw her in that stable, I knew she was mine! When I got her she could only trot, had never jumped and would only canter with a lead pony. I was similar, I was only 14 and I had been riding school horses all my life, but had just about enough confidence to take her on as I had schooled some naughty/green horses before. She has competed up to 2.9showjumping, Novice dressage and XC! She went to David Broomes last year, coming home with a 4th, 9th and 17th at her first stay away show in a huge class. She was incredible, so well behaved and a total star, despite her inexperience. We had many show jumping successes in 2013- despite in April she had never seen a show jumping course before! This year we have been mainly focusing on dressage due to frustrating saddle issues and it not being safe to jump, but we are back in action now ready to go back out show jumping and hopefully some eventing in the new year, with the help of my new jump trainer Ruth Stevens. She adores XC and jumping, and is a real dressage diva when she wants to be. She also loves galloping up on the hills with her friends Casper and Lou- sometimes winning the races!! We have had so many setbacks- lack of transport, me not being able to afford regular training and both of our inexperience throughout our three years together. But without the support of: my mum, groom, shoulder to cry on, you name it shes done it! My flatwork trainer, Christine Burke who has been with me every step of the way and my friends the Irelands for taking me out and about, I would not be where I am today. I am extremely lucky but with perseverance and patience, Dallas is now a pleasure to ride and do in every way! I absolutely adore my girl, and I hope you can see that despite her sad beginnings, she shines like a little star today, against all the odds! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
