The redundant safety features in the inherently-dangerous - TopicsExpress

The redundant safety features in the inherently-dangerous business of railroading almost always succeed in the result of moving trains without incident, but tragedies like what happened this morning in Hoxie, Arkansas, can and, sadly, occasionally do happen. Apparently, two Union Pacific Railroad trains collided, resulting in the deaths of two railroaders and injuries to the other two. There are several railroaders (and even mothers and spouses of railroaders) who read this page, and scenes and stories like what you see here are their worst nightmare; however, the news - the role of failure, in engineering speak - can play a positive purpose of reminding all of us to be constantly vigilant of safety issues, procedures, and protocol. Hoxie is on the former Missouri Pacific Railroad mainline running in a northeast-southwest orientation. As such, it is a major conduit of commerce moving between Texas-Mexico and the Great-Lakes-Northeast. wmcactionnews5/story/26299222/roads-closed-homes-evacuated-after-deadly-train-collision-near-hoxie
