The relationship moves quickly, and they make you feel chosen and special, as if the secrets they share are only between you two. They seek your sympathy, telling you woes about their hard life and the many people who have taken advantage of or hurt them. They might even speak disparagingly about their crazy ex-girlfriend/boyfriend or ex-wife/husband, and you swallow the one-sided character assassination without question. But for all of their perfect manners and perfect smile and perfectly attentive demeanor, this perfect catch hides a tremendous secret: Beneath their polished and smiling facade is a predator, the proverbial wolf in sheeps clothing. They will turn on you only after you are caught, either legally in a marriage or when they sense your heart has been surrendered. They will disguise their true nature until its too late, and by then, you will have given up your dreams, your savings, your youth, and your heart to this person. You will have believed the flattery and promises of endless love until you are older, wiser, and emotionally or physically crushed by their controlling and abusive ways. The secret they hide from everyone is their cruelty and coldness, which eventually transforms from subtle to overt psychological, verbal, and physical abuse.
