The remains of (Dr) Eugene Chinedum Osuagwu (of Abia State University) have been laid to rest in his home town, Ogbaedere-Umuokeh Obowo LGA in Imo State. He was lowered down to mother earth at about 01:05p.m, Thursday, at a grave site in his compound by hefty-looking Apams undertakers. (Dr) Chinedum Osuagwu, until his death, was a lecturer in the department of Linguistics and Communication Studies/Igbo of ABSU, where he was revered to had lectured students on phonetics, syntax and semantics including psycholinguistics. He was head of department 2004-07. Students of his department were seen in the normal black-and-black apparel, wearing forlorn faces over the big lose. In his homily at Christ the King Catholic Church, Umuokeh-Obowo parish during the funeral service, Homilist Rev father Jerome Okosisi enjoined Christians to live life acceptable in Gods sight, pointing out that nothing in this world is important except trust in God and love of neighbours. Correspondent gathered that the Church became frenzy when Rev father Okosisi drew an analogy to explain death, citing I lost my father and what is the difference between the toilet and death? The parish priest, Rev father Vincent Okpara presided over the interment, and prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest. Special prayers were also made for the bereaved families. Audience and people were carried away by the somewhat rigorous proceedings of the conservative Catholic Church (even as the day marked Pope Francis one year as pontiff - of the church with over two billion worshippers the world over). At grave site, tears dripped down mourners cheeks like rain drops. Lecturers in the humanities attended, led by the dean, prof O.O Okereke who represented the VC. Aged 65, Osuagwu is survived by wife, two daughters (married), son, and a host of other relations. He died February 8, after a brief illness. Correspondent reports that later, students went gaga chanting songs of heroism and bravity to him
