The restoration of the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel was one of the most important restoration of the twentieth century beside the restoration of wall paintings of Nefertari Tomb. ترميم النقوش الجدارية (الفرسكو) لكنيسة سيستين بالفاتيكان بروما يعتبر واحد من أهم من مشاريع الترميم في القرن العشرين إلى جانب ترميم اللوحات الجدارية لمقبرة نفرتاري بالأقصر -------------------------------- The Sistine Chapel was built by Pope Sixtus IV in the Vatican Palace just north of St. Peters Basilica and completed around 1481 The walls of the chapel were decorated with a large number of painters of the Italian Renaissance of the late fifteenth century. like Ghirlandaio, Perugino and Botticelli. the chapel was decorated with frescoes further under Pope Julius II, covering the time by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, and with the famous Judgment, commissioned by Pope Clement VII and completed in 1541, always by Michelangelo. the tapestries in the lower register, better known today through Raphaels cartoons of 1515-16, completed the ensemble. --------------------------------- The preliminary experimentation for the modern restoration began in 1979 The restoration team comprised Gianluigi Colalucci, Maurizio Rossi, Piergiorgio Bonetti, Bruno Baratti and , who took as guidelines the Rules for restoration of works of art established in 1978 by Carlo Pietrangeli, director of the Vatican Laboratory for the Restoration of Paintings at the base of the procedures and methods used in the restoration. An important part of modern restorative procedure, as established by these rules, is the study and analysis of the work. This section includes the recording of every stage of the restoration process, in this case documented by the photographer Takashi Okamura for the Nippon Television Network Corporation. The penultimate restoration was operated by the Restoration Laboratory of the Vatican Museums during the period 1935-38. The aim of the intervention was to consolidate some areas of the plaster in the termination east of the building and partially remove the dirt.
