The revolutionary leadership of the Cuban Revolution through Fidel Castro and Che Guevara represented the Third World very well. They presented to us a viable alternative model to the Euro-American world order, it is only due to clear insanity, cowardice, sabotage and sheer stupidity that we did not follow up to this profound example set by the revolutionary leadership. Cuba, as small an island as it is, proved to all and sundry that it is possible to defy the American empire and seek an alternative model of economic developments even at the height of great hostility and economic embargos. The sacred right to sovereign rule, independence and self-determination is important to any nation or people in determining the path to development and progress. African states failed in time after defeating colonialism and apartheid to seize the opportunity of crafting an alternative development path, hence, the untold human suffering, neocolonialism, abject poverty, trade imbalances and the poor state of the African economy in the continent today. We will forever be indebted and grateful to the Cuban revolutionary leadership for the great determination, vision and immense clarity of thought that they have displayed over the years. Today, although blessed by God with an over-abundance of mineral resources and human capital, Africa is sleeping, not knowing when it will rise, whilst its resources are steadily drained away to the service of other nations and people. What we know for sure is these natural resources can never be infinite, surely one day they will diminish.
