The richest town in Australia as measured by the median household - TopicsExpress

The richest town in Australia as measured by the median household income is Karratha followed by Emerald. These resource towns have income levels typically 80-130% above the national average. The poorest towns are places like Forster-Tunc...urry, Victor Harbor-Goolwa and St Georges Basin-Sanctuary Point. Some 14% of Australians are aged 65+ but in Karratha this proportion is 2%; in Victor Harbor it is 34%. Some 75% of Australians believe in God but in places like Griffith and Hosrham this proportion exceeds 90%. Oddly Mt Gambier and other SA towns are far less likely to believe. Towns most likely to have a population that volunteers are often retirement places: towns like Forster for example. Those communities least likely to volunteer are our capital cities where both parents work to pay the mortage. What emerges from this analysis are towns with distinct characteristics that can be a function of the local population as well as an outcome of how the region was settled.
