The sad news today is that Yuki, our old white cat, has just died. She came to our place as a stray in 2008 and she was old even then. When she arrived at the gate begging for — well, more demanding than begging, actually — food and shelter, her long hair was matted like sheeps fleece and I had to cut it off with a mixture of scissors and a cutter knife. She got on really well with all the other cats and with people too. The opposite of shy, she was always calling for service in a loud and sharp mewing voice that must be obeyed. Thats probably what got her chucked out of her last place. Yuki had been active but demented for the past few months. She developed a habit of asking to be let out the side door, then jumping on an outside air conditioner unit and asking to be let in through a window, sometimes repeating the cycle five or six times in a day. For the past few weeks her appetite had been light and she was prone to dozing for longer and longer periods. But as recently as three days ago she was acting normal for her. I didnt expect her to pop of this quick, but it happens to old cats. In the end, she looked at me like Yoda and in my minds ear I heard her say, Soon, will I rest, yes. Forever sleep. Earned it, I have. After that, she went very peacefully.
