The self-centered dilemma. When you are both the product and pusher becoming self-centered is pretty easy. In my defense, Ive tried to post on a variety of subjects but only the super opinionated rants seem to be engaging- ha, and rants are usually, (purposefully) unbalanced, emotional, and you know... a release. Social networks push artists too hard to be seen- there is almost no room for subtleties, humility, casual conversation, or dare I say... quiet. When you have money and a host of major network connections promoting you its real easy to sit back and play the cool-mysterious-aloof-non-chalante artist, tweeting once a week, posting a selfie every two days, and avoiding any direct promo- like, Peep my video!, Listen to my song! etc. Signed artists have a work force behind them (which is awesome) and they work on promo so the artist can just be an artist. Now, you know its just me here. Just a thought. I was feeling a bit guilty thinking and writing so much of myself lately. Trust me, I KNOW we all have our own lives, with our own issues, and I fully understand anyones fatigue over hearing an artist whine, promote, (kinda) beg for attention etc. At the end of the day I wish my job was to just make music- thats it, and if I didnt have to also promote myself to make a living and stay socially relevant by treading each networks algorithm- thats just what Id do- make music, only. Trust me, music does not speak for itself- great music dies daily in our oversaturated industry. If it isnt commercially monopolized its an endless sea of indies fighting for your attention. Anyway- thanks for listening!
