The series Im working on now could extend into several books rather than just a trilogy, though I could also, if I chose, end it at three and start another series about explorations into the greater world. The Cen War was fought nearly everywhere on Earth, by people who no longer had any means to communicate with one another over distance. Radio waves were blocked, satellites destroyed, and air travel impossible. I suppose if I were going to go with common tropes I might have the French surrendering and collaborating, but I think that sort of thing is both gauche and beaten to death already. The French government at that time might have surrendered, but the French people didnt. And it wasnt all THAT long before when it was Napoleon and the French attempting to take over the world. Not wimps at all. Island nations like Britain and Ireland have less to fear and would probably suffer less from the invasion than most, since the Cen detest water and try to avoid it. Theyd likely only have sent their hybrid troops after those spots after the rest of the world was conquered. Everywhere on Earth is likely worthy of exploration. How would Lokis Sin, and then the war, have changed things? The political and physical landscape, society in general? Fifteen years after the series of diseases that wiped out nearly half the population, then changed many others into superhumans and legendary monsters, as well as returning mankinds legacy of magic, nothing will look the same. Not Rio, nor Hong Kong, Calcutta, nor Beijing. Pile climate change on top of that and who knows what might have happened. After the third book Im going to be looking at making contact with these far-flung places, in effect reinventing the rest of the world. Id always imagined an anthology written by authors FROM these places, or at least familiar with them to a degree I am not.
