The Shia clerics after supporting BJP president Rajnath Singh as the favoured candidate from Lucknow find themselves being isolated by the community. The meeting between singh and cleric Kalbe Jawad drew considerable flak from Shia theologians, academics, and others with the community having started to distance itself from this support. Syed Hassan Kazim, a journalist, said “there is no doubt that Kalbe Jawad sahab is a highly respected figure in Lucknow and I too have immense respect for him. But his comparison of Rajnath Singh to Atal Bihari Vajpayee cannot be appreciated.
