The shooting down of MH17 - It is heartening to see Prime Minister - TopicsExpress

The shooting down of MH17 - It is heartening to see Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop taking a strong stance on the issue and holding Russia to account. As a long time observer of strategic and international issues, my view is that too often, national leaders and foreign ministers are too afraid to stand up for our country and instead continue to bow and scrape to other countries as if to apologise for being a Western country. Happily, this is not the case with the Abbott government, and we have seen it take a very strong stance in not only the MH17 issue but also in securing our borders and re-establising our sovereignty in the region despite opposition from several of our neighbouring powers that have perhaps tacitly been weakening our resolve through indirectly assisting the smuggling of tens of thousands of illegal settlers from the Middle East and elsewhere to alter our demographics. In terms of MH17, Australia had the second highest number of passengers on board, and Russia needs to be held to account for what happened. So far, there is every indication that PM Abbott and Foreign Minister Bishop are not letting them get away with it. Perhaps we now have a government that is more willing to stand up for us as a nation.
