The sour taste of pre-4pm BSS varnishes when d clock strikes 4pm, - TopicsExpress

The sour taste of pre-4pm BSS varnishes when d clock strikes 4pm, d hour of decision. At first, we were confused at d chain of activities and d opposite responsibility. While it was junior boys busying themselves with cleaning and dressing in d morning, it was d black shoes shining bright in d happy sun, charcoal irons straightening check shirts and lining brown trousers, carefully crafted bathing, well oiled hair, shavings and umpteenth glances at tiny mirrors. By d time boys were done dressing, an impeccable clean and well-dressed gentleman is ready to bestride d territory of Mrs Mannok and her girls! Having a sister in GHS, I was conscripted into this movement by been hurriedly bathed, clothed and perfumed by a gang of senior students and readied for what we got to know as IBC. Unrivaled in any clime, IBC stands for International Bilcoozing Centre, a place where boys from BSS are permitted to go to GHS and make friends or become lovers with d girls there. It takes place in d ground of d GHS market, where d basketball and lawn tennis courts bear testament to d many relationships which innocently blossomed under their keen watch. There are mango trees and stones there which make d IBC ground look romantic but d most outstanding feature of d ground is Love Stone. A tiny rock, Love Stone is d faithful keeper of many secrets shared between young lovers in Gindiri during d daytime and a conspirator to first kisses and smooches shared at night atop it. Overlooking d IBC ground is d GHS poultry which makes every BSS boys green with envy at d prospect of d girls eating eggs while we scan for d tiniest fish in black soup (okro soup). Unmarked, every BSS boy knows d boundaries of d IBC ground- u cannot exceed d poultry and u must maintain d road from Mr Mutashis house (later Mr Mainas house) through d large field which is used as a farm or follow d motor road in front of GHS frontage up to d IBC ground. Unbeknown to most of us, there is a clear view from MGs house to d IBC ground which accounts for how MG gets to know that BSS boys are doing IBC beyond d legally allowed 6pm which always results in him chasing us back to school after noting our names for punishment d next Monday. D highlight of IBC is that boys get to display their basketball skills to d girls and junior boys get to enjoy Markas bilko and Nwachukwus coke. We also buy Mr Gyangs (she died this week) yams. Any unfinished business at IBC gets finished at Entertainment later at night after dinner. Whenever any junior boy tells any GHS girl events in BSS (such as who beat u or who did what) IBC becomes embargoed for junior boys unless and until GHS senior girls pressure d senior boys to lift d IBC embargo for junior boys. If you want to know d meaning of d Bilcoozing in IBC, youll be disappointed cos that word only exists in BSS/GHS phraseology. But for IBC, many of d beautiful GHS girls wouldnt have married handsome BSS boys later in life- Mr and Mrs YS Dimka, Mr and Mrs Akila Mannok, Mr and Mrs T. Ahura, Arch and Mrs Andrew Adama, Engr and Mrs Fwangshak Ezekiel, even Niri and Christy Darong!
