The spiny water flea is Lake Champlains newest invasive species, spotted only last month. While each additional invasive species can cause harm to the lakes ecosystem, its unlikely that the crustacean will have a noticeable effect on fishing. Spiny water flea could have a more dramatic effect if they are moved to smaller, inland lakes, so dry your equipment in the sun for five days or spray it with pressurized hot water before moving to other bodies of water.
