The story of Isaiah Austin has increased awareness of Marfan Syndrome, which is huge! Mr. Austin may not be able to realize his dream of becoming an NBA player, but the early diagnosis has saved his life. Its better to find out now than to find out after a hard hit that kills him on the court. He can use his story to encourage so many others. I hope he sees this as an opportunity once the initial sting of the lost dream heals. Plus, maybe the team with the last pick in the draft will consider picking Mr. Austin, sign him to a one-day contract and let him retire as an NBA player. It may cost them a couple hundred grand but it will be a classy thing to do and will pay huge public relations dividends.
