The story of Zacchaeus and Jesus is the perfect story to convey the idea of salvation by grace through faith. For by grace you are saved, through faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God and not of works so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 If salvation were by works, this story would have been much different. Zacchaeus would have been a very religions and self-righteous man who always prayed and kept the commandments to the best of his knowledge. When Jesus came to him, he would not have thought it to be such a great thing. Zacchaeus would have just assumed that Jesus wanted to stay at his house because he was such a good, religious man, and then, there would be nothing special about that story at all. The stories in the bible are not just there randomly. They are inspired by God to reveal spiritual truths about man, about God and how we relate to him.
