The story of the widow woman in Mark 12:41-44 who cast in her 2 - TopicsExpress

The story of the widow woman in Mark 12:41-44 who cast in her 2 mites (small copper coins worth pennies) into the temple treasure prompted Jesus to call His disciples to Him and say; this poor widow cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasure: for all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want (poverty) did cast in all that she had, even all her living. She had nothing left to live on and had to depend on God for her every need. The trumpet players didnt sound a blast on the trumpets at the quiet sound of the two copper mites dropped into the coffer as they did when the sound of the large silver or golden coins were dropped there by the rich and recognized. No one but Jesus paid the poor widow woman any attention, and since she is nameless in the scripture, she was probably nameless in the temple fellowship as well. What do you suppose impressed Jesus to observe the widow womans gift and attitude towards giving? Maybe it was because He recognized that she had the same attitude in her giving that He had towards His life, He gave His all. If you, like the widow of Mark 12, feels less valuable, unheralded, over looked and nearly nameless in the fellowship of your church, Jesus identifies with you and you are no less valuable than anyone else in the eyes of God. In Luke 4:18, Jesus names the poor first of those that He came to minister to. Just maybe we need to go back and read Luke 4:18-19 and see the kind of people that needed Jesus and He came to minister to. kbm
