UPCOMING CELEBRATIONS - Child care provided. • Dec. 7 Poems of a Nomad. Therése Halscheid--author of “Frozen Latitudes,” her fifth book of poems--will present a sampling of poems representative of her way of life on the road. She says, “I have lived simply, as a house-sitter, for twenty years. As a nomadic writer, I find opportunities to connect with the earth, as well as write of it.” Pebble pianist Wanda Canfield has a student from china who will perform the First Movement of Beethovens Tempest Sonata. He will join Wanda for a wonderful, fun duet version of Carol of the Bells. Rev. Rosalind Cauffman will lead the celebration. The theme for this 2nd Advent Sunday is Love. For examples of Therése’s poetry and quite a lot about her very interesting story, check out ThereseHalscheid. Donna Baier Stein, editor of Tiferet Journal, says, “In Frozen Latitudes, Therése Halscheid welcomes the lucky reader into a world of deep love, familial illness, and the dual human urges to speak and be heard. The narrator takes a look at ‘how it really looked long ago’ and how ‘lips, bright as scars, are parting / open with words so the great air can take them.’ The settings of these exquisite poems range from a childhood home colored by a father’s dementia to the northern interior of Alaska with its stories from The Real People in which each word is ‘a language of light.’ These are moving, masterful poems in a brilliantly cohesive collection.” Note - The Craft Fair starts at 12 p.m. today. • Dec. 14 The Miraculous Light! Gary Schoenberg will lead this celebration with its roots in the Jewish holiday memorializing the rebuilding of the Temple and the little lamp that burned for eight days on one day’s oil and reminding us of the light that shines within all. The Advent theme is Joy. • Dec. 21 Solstice Sunday: “I Remember Christmas.” Lots of carols! Bring ornaments to share on our Christmas tree. Michael Marino, Rev. Sharon Kachel and Michael Sturgeon will share memories of Christmases past, and Rev. Rosalind Cauffman will speak on the meaning of Christmas. Pebble pianist Wanda Canfield brings us a musical present of a duet by two of her students! Rev. Larry Hall will lead. The theme is Peace on This fourth Sunday of Advent. • Dec. 24 Christmas Eve—Star story-teller Bill Mettler will lead our Christmas Eve celebration, starting at 7:30 p.m. More to come! • Dec. 27 New Year’s & Kwanzaa Sunday. We will cast off the old and welcome the new as we come together before the Pebble fireplace for our traditional Burning of the Greens! Rev. Dave Perkins will lead.
