The summary of my nerdy D&D research of Half-Elves! How does a Human and Elf fall in love? Humans tend to obviously fall for these creatures of perfection! Elves fall for exceptional humans that are too good for the humans they associate with. 50-50 likely chance either Gender combination. Meaning, children of human-elf lineage to have a Human Father and Elf Mother are just as common as children who have a Human Mother and Elf Father. Why are half-elves uncommon? Elves and Humans like to avoid integration. Elves fear inferior genes and humans fear losing lovers (aka Jealousy). However, because they are allies under the command of God, they could not outright discriminate. Instead they subtly discourage intermingling by separating from one another (Most humans live in Del Sol while most Elves live in Alfheim. Both locations are half a world away from one another.) or encouraging racial pride. Also, elves rarely have children. The hybrids: The elf amongst humans and human amongst elves. Detecting hybrid amongst Elves: Dark skintone, shorter height, and small round-ish ears from human lineage. Detecting hybrid amongst Humans: Slender body, beautiful features, and no facial hair from elf lineage What makes them outcasts Those humans who admire elvenkind see half-elves as a living link or bridge between the two races. But this attitude often foists unfair expectations and elevated standards upon half-elves, and quickly turns to derision when they do not live up to the grand destinies that others set for them. Additionally, those half-elves raised by or in the company of elves often have the human half of their parentage dubbed a mere obstacle, something to be overcome with proper immersion and schooling in the elven ways, and even the most well-meaning elven mentors often push their half-elven charges to reject a full half of themselves in order to "better" themselves.
