The swimming glossary as known to swimmers: 4:30- an ungodly hour when varsity swimmers get up and go swim for a hour. Beep: GOOOO. GO GO GO!!!!! Chocolate milk: Heaven in a glass Coach: Someone who makes you do what you dont want to do so that you can be the person you always wanted to be. Carbs: Energy. Usually comes in the form of spaghetti dinners before meets Doubles: Wake up. Swim. Pass out. Swim. Sleep. Swim. Eat. Swim. Dryland: Most commonly mistaken for flopping around on land like a dead fish, this is when swimmers are forced to do marine training stuff like running and push-ups and sit-ups on dry land, hence the name. Its a time when swimmers realize that they sweat chlorine. Dry erase board: not usually good news. Fly: Pain on pain on pain on pain. But really fun at the same time. Flippers: Fins on my feet. So get like me. They make any swimmer feel like Michael Phelps Flipturn: doing a somersault underwater against a wall and using it to push off. Its one of the most fun things to do. Flags: also known as backstroke flags, these are used so that you can count your strokes and hit the wall with a hand and not your head. Very, very useful in preventing concussions. Goggles: Best things ever invented when they stay on your eyes. (Also a great procrastination device) Jeah: a term coined by Ryan Lochte... Means something like cool or yeah... Im not sure anyone really knows what it means. Leg Hair: Perfectly normal. Only to be shaven in November for conference, sectionals or state. Michael Phelps: The swim god. Missy Franklin: Look her up if you dont know who she is. Parents: people who know everything except when it comes to swimming. Also known as food providers. Team: Family Taper: a magical time that only comes once a season where you prepare for a big meet by usually doing less yards and more sprint work. Starburst: usually a reward for getting a best time. Swim hickey: a bruise received from a thick strapped suit rubbing against your neck. Swimming: Both the worst thing and the best thing that can ever happen to you. YOBO: you only breathe once.
