The term evolution is ill-defined, misused and misunderstood. The general theory of evolution is a framework from which sub-theories can be tested. The level at which Darwinism works empirically is the “micro-level” – it gives a valid scientific explanation of why dogs can be crossbred to produce a new breed of dog (in other words, it’s a legitimate explanation of why there is variation within a species). The evidence for macro-evolution (life and information originating from inanimate matter and one species evolving into another) is non-existent yet the Darwinist will often equivocate on the term “evolution” and use examples of microevolution in an attempt to demonstrate the validity of their naturalist worldview. Those who believe in God are also guilty of equivocating on the term “evolution” and this is why observing a debate between an atheist and a theist (between a “believer” and a “non-believer”) can become extremely tedious. Can DNA originate by itself through unguided natural events? No, it isn’t what is observed in nature. Do unguided cell mutations or natural selection (the fundamental Darwinian mechanisms) add new functionality to a living system? The field of evolutionary biology lacks unambiguous examples of true gain-of-function mutations – most examples demonstrate that mutations do not add functionality but, instead, reduce complexity or rearrange existing information. Dr Lee Spetner states: “All point mutations that have been studied on the molecular level turn out to reduce the genetic information and not increase it” There are no physical or chemical processes which account for the origin of life or information.
