The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (John 10:10-11 ESV) The Good Shepherd came that we may have an abundant life. You may ask then what am I struggling? We must open our eyes to the gifts of God, that of everlasting life, joy in spite of adversity, and peace in the midst of the storm. No other person can offer these things, and to top it off we get to spend eternity in Heaven! I have no idea what that will be like, but it have a longing for it that cant be explained. There is a thief prowling, dangerous and conniving, but we have assurance that we can overcome through Christ our Lord! I researched just a bit about what makes a shepherd a good shepherd. Our Good Shepherd is a great shepherd for so many reasons. Ill list a few that come to mind. He protects us from predators. He knows us individually and can call us by name. This also allows Him to know how to keep us in line, some respond better to gentle nudging while others take a swift stick to hind quarter to get their attention (Im afraid I would be grouped with the later bunch!). He knows where the best pastures and most gentle waters are and can safely lead the flock there. Lastly and most importantly, he proved His love for us in that He laid His life down for us on Calvary! Praise God He rose on the third day, though! There has never been or will never be a better shepherd than He! God, I love You so much! Thank You for sending the Gentle Shepherd to guide us and protect us. Thank You, Jesus, for being our Gentle Shepherd. We, like sheep, are stubborn, we get lost, sick, and frightened, yet You are there for us always. Thank You! Use us daily to lead others to You. May our lives reflect your great love. We give You all honor and all glory and all praise. You are so very worthy!!!!
